A New Home for April
A woman we serve finds the perfect place with Care Coordinator support!
April was very unhappy living in an Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) home that was a poor fit for her needs. Care Coordinator Jenna Benjamin advocated for her, helping April identify a new place to live.
With Jenna’s support and coordination, April moved into a new IRA during the month of April! While moving in the midst of a pandemic presented obstacles and challenges, it was ultimately worthwhile.
“It took time, patience, and perseverance, but it paid off!” says Jenna. “April has told me repeatedly that she likes her house a lot.”
April is experiencing success and opportunities she did not have before. Her independence has increased and she requires less supervision at home, fulfilling a Life Plan goal. She needs fewer visual checks and is working toward gaining more community independence.
Since moving, April has also had zero behavior incidents! This is a huge improvement for her, as she was previously known to hoard and steal food. She now requires less supervision in the kitchen because of her behavior shift.
“The right home can make all the difference in someone succeeding and being happy!” says Jenna.
We wish April many years of success in her home!
