Tawfiq Writes an Inspiring Guide to Football

Tawfiq Baity has the strategic mind of a seasoned football coach and is ready to share his insights with the world. After a year of research and writing, the 26-year-old recently released So, You Want to Make the Team, a book for children interested in tackling the art of football.

“Football can be a great experience for anyone who wants to have fun with the sport,” says Tawfiq. “Anyone and everyone can play!”

Krystle Socha, a Care Coordinator at Person Centered Services, has worked with Tawfiq and his family for more than three years. She is excited to see how he has expressed himself through writing, creating the perfect book for young athletes.

“Tawfiq is so determined,” says Krystle, who provides resources and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “He has a smart head on his shoulders and doesn’t let his disability hold him back.”

So, You Want to Make the Team features vibrant illustrations by Nur Afifa. The book contains helpful and illuminating chapters on equipment and safety, player positions, and the basics of catching, running, and punting. It also highlights the importance of good character, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

“My love of football inspired me to make the book,” says Tawfiq. “People know the dangers of football, but I wanted to show it could be done safely.”

Tawfiq first became obsessed with football early in high school. His school gave him his very own jersey and treated him as part of the team. Tawfiq plotted out football plays and shared them with the varsity coach, who appreciated his tactical approach.

One day, Tawfiq hopes to become the coach of a middle or high school football team himself. He is inspired by the professors from classes he took through Sports Management World, who also provided feedback on his book. They offered suggestions based on their own professional coaching experience.

Tawfiq has also received personal inspiration from some of the all-time NFL greats. As a dedicated Patriots fan, he sent head coach Bill Belichick a portfolio of football plays he created and Belichick wrote back to him, noting how they both think alike. While in high school, Tawfiq also received a special visit from Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who gave him an autographed jersey and tickets to a playoffs game in Massachusetts. Attending the nailbiter game was one of the greatest experiences of Tawfiq’s life.

“I’m so proud of Tawfiq,” says Krystle, who loves encouraging his success. “He is well on his way to becoming a coach!”

Krystle has linked Tawfiq to self-directed services, which let him take more control of his life. Currently, she is working to get accessible technology for his home, including voice-activated lights and a ceiling track to help him move around more easily. Tawfiq also hopes to get even more involved in his community and make connections with local football teams. He sees Krystle as an important advocate as he pursues his dreams.

“Krystle genuinely cares,” says Tawfiq. “This isn’t just a pit stop for her between other jobs. She cares about getting things done.”
