Update on SNAP Benefits
Find new information on SNAP from the New York Alliance for Inclusion & Innovation.
The NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) recently shared an update on the status of SNAP benefits for New Yorkers during the Federal Government Shutdown. The NY Alliance will continue to monitor the latest information available and share with its members as we receive it. Below is the latest update from the OTDA website:
Federal Government Shutdown — Information and Resources
New York State has issued full SNAP benefits to all eligible households. Those who expected to receive benefits yesterday and today have received them and were able to spend. Others will continue to receive their benefits throughout the week.
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown and the lack of federal funding, the start of applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) has been delayed until further notice. The Public Assistance program is not affected at this time.
We know this interruption can make it difficult for households to afford food or heating costs. There may be local supports available to help during this time.
If you need immediate help:
– Contact your local Department of Social Services to ask about other programs or emergency assistance that may be available in your county.
– Community-based organizations, food pantries and faith-based groups may be able to help with food, heating, or other basic needs. For more information:
– For residents outside of New York City, call 211, or visit 211nys.org.

– HEAP — Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown and the lack of federal funding, the start of applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) has been delayed until further notice. Households lacking resources that can’t afford a fuel delivery or are facing a utility shutoff can apply for Emergency Assistance through their local Department of Social Services.
