Avoiding Overmedication
Read important information below provided by our Clinical Team.
Tips to Avoid Overmedication
– Be sure you are educated on the medications you take! Know the name of each medication, what each one looks like, why you take it and possible side effects. This can be done by speaking with your primary physician or house nurse. Your Care Coordinator can help to facilitate these discussions if needed.
– See your primary care physician regularly (or at least once a year) for a medical follow up and medication review. Be sure to ask your physician for the review of your medication prior to or during your appointment. Your Care Coordinator or house nurse can assist you in your communications with your physician’s office if you need help.
– Seek the right specialists to get scripts for specific medications. For example, you might need to obtain prescriptions for psychiatric medication from a psychiatrist, not a primary care physician. Your Care Coordinator or house nurse can help to monitor this if you need help.
– Speak up about medication concerns or side effects. If you have questions or concerns, ask. You can ask a residential nurse or your primary care physician when you have questions about your medications or their side effects. Your Care Coordinator can help facilitate these conversations if needed.
– Reach out to your Care Coordinator if you have questions! Person Centered Services has a robust Clinical Team that our Care Coordinators can access. Our Clinical Team is made up of licensed professionals who are focused on providing resources that can support physical and mental health outcomes.
