Practicing Self-Advocacy with SASI
We were proud to encourage self-advocacy skills through a special partnership with SASI Inc!
Person Centered Services’ Member Relations Team partnered with SASI Inc.’s Inner Circle Self-Advocacy Group to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities practice skills that promote empowerment and independence. These skills included communication with one’s circle of support, setting expectations of a life plan meeting with introductions, establishing roles and responsibilities, goal-setting, handling changes in support staff, and tips for working through conflicts.
Member Relations Manager Craig Mennig spent time pre-planning a role-playing scenario demonstrating what a successful life plan could look like with members of the group. Self-advocates we support played the roles of the Care Coordinator and the Member (a person who receives Care Coordination). Throughout the scenario, the group shared their experiences and best practices for positive outcomes.
A special thank you to SASI’s Inner Circle Self-Advocacy Group for hosting Person Centered Services! This group included SASI’s Chief Compliance Officer John Bowles and Chief People Officer Karen Keyes.
If you are a part of a family or self-advocacy group in the Western New York, Southern Tier or Finger Lakes regions and would like to partner with us, contact memberrelations@personcenteredservices.com or call 888-977-7030.
