Larry Receives the Key to the City
An individual we serve is honored as an extraordinary citizen, volunteer, and father.
It’s not often that someone is handed the key to their city. But Larry Ordway has proven himself such a remarkable citizen that the mayor of Olean, NY granted him this extraordinary privilege on October 14, 2022. In an official ceremony, Larry was recognized for the many ways he contributes to his community.
Larry Ordway has been a superstar volunteer for several years. He donates his time four days a week to Meals on Wheels in Olean. He also hangs flyers for local fundraisers to help families in need, traveling great distances to spread the word. He is always there to brighten the lives of neighbors, whether shoveling sidewalks, raking leaves, or sharing bags of candy. He stocks shelves, dispatches taxis, serves as a greeter on buses, and has previously volunteered at the Warming House, Church Without Walls and Harvest Field Ministries.
In April of this year, Larry was inducted into the Fatherhood Hall of Fame. He finished a 12-session program over Zoom and completed the program for a second time, in person, in 2021. He was honored with a special certificate for the way he has mentored and encouraged other fathers in the program. Larry has one child, a teenage son, he spends time with every chance he gets.
Care Coordinator Amy Rowe is grateful to help Larry access the resources and opportunities he needs to succeed. With Amy’s support, Larry has been able to move out of family care to an apartment of his own. Each year, he grows more independent, learning everyday living skills through programming that Amy has connected Larry with.
“I’ve had the pleasure of having Larry on my caseload for over six years, but I have known Larry much longer than that,” says Amy. “Larry is a thoughtful, generous person, and anyone would be honored to know him.”
Person Centered Services is proud to coordinate care for someone who has such a tremendous impact on his community!
