On 四月 8, 2024 in the Western New York area, a partial eclipse will begin soon after 2PM. It will become a full eclipse by around 3:20PM for approximately 3-4 minutes. This means the Sun will be entirely blocked by the Moon. The partial eclipse will end soon after 4:30PM. Times vary slightly depending on the location. Please see the map from iloveny.com for the path of the eclipse and exact eclipse times.

Eclipse Safety Tips

– During the eclipse, no one should look directly at the sun.

– If you would like to watch the eclipse, you must use special safety glasses:

* You can find companies that sell approved safety glasses here.

* If you live in the Buffalo area, there are also opportunities to pick up free eclipse glasses. In Rochester, there are glasses available at select locations for $2.50. Additionally, the Olean Public Library is distributing solar eclipse glasses and the Jamestown Post-Journal has a list of distribution locations for solar eclipse glasses.

* If you are wearing glasses to view the eclipse, please make sure they are safe and approved for use. Learn more about the dangers of counterfeit eclipse glasses here.

* If you do not have eclipse glasses or are unable to look up, you can watch the eclipse by viewing shadows on the ground. You can also view the eclipse on television.
