Dustyn shadowed sports reporter Joe Buscaglia from Channel 7 News in Buffalo, NY.

Dustyn, an aspiring sports broadcaster and junior at Allegany-Limestone Central School, had the opportunity to shadow Joe Buscaglia, sports reporter for Channel 7 News in Buffalo, NY.

After meeting and impressing Shane Costa, a certified sports agent and Allegany-Limestone alumni, during an interview, Costa offered to set Dustyn up with Buscaglia for a day of job shadowing at WKBW.

A Buffalo native, Buscaglia began his career covering the Bills with WGR Sports Radio 550. Today, he is the Sports Director and serves as the Buffalo Bills beat reporter for Channel 7.

Dustyn shadowed Buscaglia throughout his day, made connections with other WKBW employees who he maintains contact with today, and stayed in the studio for the 6 o’clock news broadcast to see Buscaglia in action.

“It was a fun experience,” Dustyn said. “I’m learning a lot because my relationship with the people [at WKBW] continues to develop.”

Karen Hunt, Dustyn’s care coordinator since July, is excited to be part of Dustyn’s future life decisions. She says Dustyn is beginning to figure out his plans for college and his experience with Buscaglia has reinforced his interest in pursuing sports broadcasting as a career.

“He’s an inspirational young man,” Karen said. “I feel like I’ve entered into his life during a very exciting chapter. I look forward to being part of Dustyn’s circle as his adult life unfolds before him.”

Dustyn will graduate in June 2020 with a Regents diploma and plans to study sports broadcasting in college.

Good luck, Dustyn! We can’t wait to see where your future in sports broadcasting takes you. Maybe one day we’ll even get to watch you during the 6 o’clock news!
