A Message on National Disability Employment Awareness Month

At Person Centered Services, we’re committed to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by connecting them to opportunities where they can achieve their highest potential. Our service system includes pre-vocational and employment support, enabling members to contribute, earn an income, and express themselves through meaningful work in their communities.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to celebrate the significant impact of people with disabilities in the workforce. Originating in 1945 as a weeklong event, this observance was extended to a month in 1988 by Congress. The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), established in 2001, oversees NDEAM and promotes its annual theme.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” highlights the skills and contributions of Americans with disabilities, supporting the nationwide Freedom 250 initiative. This initiative is part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States, honoring the enduring spirit of American workers.

I am so thankful for the many ways that our Care Coordinators help the people we serve reach their employment goals! We are proud to partner with providers throughout our region to ensure that our members are connected to work-related opportunities that are right for them.

Stay tuned as we highlight the value and talent of people with intellectual and disabilities in the workplace throughout October!
