Disability Pride Flag-Raising
The city of Buffalo honored Disability Pride Month in an official flag-raising ceremony.
On July 8, 2026, Community members, self-advocates, and local leaders gathered in Niagara Square in Buffalo, NY to raise the Disability Pride flag in recognition of Disability Pride Month.
Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan, along with other elected officials and disability rights advocates, spoke about the importance of celebrating disability pride, advancing inclusion, and ensuring accessibility for all. BJ Stasio, a self-advocate and representative on the Person Centered Services Member Advisory Board, also shared remarks during the ceremony.
Held each July, the annual flag-raising commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark legislation that strengthened civil rights protections and expanded opportunities for people with disabilities across the nation.
Person Centered Services promotes the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities each day as we connect them to the care, support and opportunities that maximize their quality of life.
